Picture perfect Lake Annecy
At 14.6km in length this is the third largest lake in the region and well worth a visit. In a tranquil location - and with a castle (!), there are beaches, cruises, guided tours and a range of watersports activities. Loads to see and do, and a great choice of open air cafés and restaurants.
A high mountain resort with a high profile
Chamonix is a resort that has it all. A mecca for mountaineering and adrenaline junkies in winter and summer. A ‘must do' is the cable car ride to the highest peak, the Auguille du Midi (3842m) - the views are breathtaking. The Mer de Glace, France's largest glacier, is another popular attraction accessed by a rack and pinion railway line. Choose from a long list of activities, or simply soak up the atmosphere, have lunch and go shopping in the old town.
Cross the border into Switzerland
At a little over an hour from Megève, Geneva is definitely worth a day trip. The main attractions such as Lake Geneva quayside, the Giant Fountain, St Peter's Cathedral and the Old Town are all easily accessible on foot, or there are regular buses and trams.
Visit Evian – there's water everywhere!
Évian le Bains is a holiday resort and spa town on the shores of Lake Geneva. Best know for its natural springs, it is famously home to Evian mineral water. The water's curative qualities and its medicinal use dates back to around 1807.
