Nestling in the foothills of Mont Blanc in France's Haute Savoie region, just over an hour by road from Geneva airport, and a 40-minute drive from Chamonix, Megève is a real alpine gem.
The Rothschild family originally developed the village as a ski resort at the beginning of the 20th Century. By the 1950s it was one of Europe's most prominent resorts and was favoured by stars of stage and screen. It remains a firm favourite with the rich and famous to this day.
Nowadays it's not just a winter playground, but also a resort that can rival any in terms of the facilities on offer. Traditional and charming, the town provides a mix of old and new combining historic architecture and cobbled streets with designer boutiques, cafés, bars and restaurants. Needless to say the food is a highlight of any trip to the area with Megève able to boast an amazing choice of restaurants - from brasserie to Michelin star fine dining!
There's so much to see and do in and around Megève. For those who want to explore the immediate area, whether on foot, or by bike, there are over 300km of marked trails. The major ski lifts are also open in the summer months, taking a little strain off tired legs where necessary!
For cycle enthusiasts, the hotel is certainly ideally placed to enjoy the ultimate in alpine on and off road cycling experiences. For more competitive cyclists, the town hosts regular cycle sport events.
Megève also has an excellent sports centre, a short walk from the Hotel Chalet d'Antoine, offering a range of sports activities. The Palais des Sports Leisure Centre has an Olympic outdoor swimming pool and fun slides, and with plenty of green space around for sunbathing, is ideal for a dip on a hot summer's day.
